Ukrainian Start

Our season got off with a bang with a group of anglers we had from the Ukraine. The weather had cleared a week before they were due to arrive and conditions were great for a week of fishing. The first day was spent flexing muscles and getting used to casting poppers for 8hrs. We did have many smaller GT coming up, hitting lures and giving the anglers a workout.

A solid Red Bass caught on popper. These fish never hesitate to take top water lures when they’re about.  We often have them coming up in packs and chasing after top water lures.

The big GT of the trip came after a couple of days of popping.  The deeper reefs and the ones further off shore were free of bait and had very few GT on them. Conditions were such that all the bait was bunched up in water less than 10 meters deep. The trick to finding the fish is to look for the bait and we soon were into the GT. The remainder of the trip and weeks to come had all our GT caught is relatively shallow water.

Bouncing a large rubber shad off the bottom of the reef in about 60 meters of water resulted in this hook up. The lucky angler wound up with a double hook up of grouper. We commonly call these fish the tiger grouper in the Andaman Islands.

Once the week was underway we had constant action everyday of the trip and there never was a dull moment on the boat. We had numerous double double and triple hookups with smaller GT.

Another prime example of a Red Bass we get swimming here off our reefs. We’ve noticed a rise in the number of Red Bass we’ve had this season that signifies the health of the reefs.

We’re sure to see our friends from the Ukraine again in the Andaman Islands. Meanwhile it’s business as usual and we’re out fishing again helping clients achieve their dream fish!

Fishing Eventur with Matt…

Pictures from a fantastic trip we had fishing with our agency from Poland, Eventur.

The main aim of the team was to catch GT on popper and try catch as many fish as they could on surface lures. Conditions were great during the trip but we did have the weather pick up during our trip. Once the weather settled again the fish were on the feed and we had some spectacular results. For most fishermen it was a first time GT popping trip and they were amazed at how hard these fish pulled.

Above a couple of the largest GT we caught on the trip on popper. Thankfully these fish were stopped before they could nead down into the reef and bust the Pe.8 we were using.

It was a week when the Dog Tooth Tuna were also up on the surface and were taking poppers and stick-baits. However poppers out fished stick-baits this week when it came to the Dog Tooth Tuna. Brighter colours seemed to work better as well.

Working the shallows was always an interesting time as we had many a coral trout and grouper. The red bass were also not so far behind.

Turtle rescue! Every now and again we come across a bit of floating net that has a poor turtle entangled in it. This young turtle was cut free and released. Thankfully it was in pretty good shape.

Another Dog Tooth Tuna caught on popper off a deep reef that normally has huge GT’s on it. We were amazed at the number of Doggies coming up to take surface lures.

We briefly jigged and were rewarded again with Doggies.

We did see an early school of Yellow Fin Tuna with a flock of birds above them. Not long before we had some Yellow Fin Tuna on popper. Signs of good times to come as later in the season we hade some really great YFT popping. In the middle of all the chaos we had an Orca pass through the area we were fishing.

More surface caught Dog Tooth Tuna. We’ve got the group visiting us again next year and we are sure of a great week of fishing. We probably will again focus on a week of popper fishing again.

To be a part of a similar fishing trip write us a quick email at info@gamefishingindia.com and we’ll let you know your options. You however will have to be quick as we’re almost sold out for our 2014-2015 season!
