These are the second batch of photographs from the awesome trip we had with the Dutch Anglers. We did catch quite a few species and all of them on popper or jig.
Michel, above with a fantastic looking blue fin trevally. We do catch quite a few of this species as they’re fierce predators and take all manner of lures so are quite easy to catch and put up quite a scrap.
Some more nice looking specimens of GT caught on popper. At shallower spots we fish we had smaller specimens that kept our angling guests very busy.
A brief jig session had us into Dog Tooth Tuna, Coral Trout and Giant Trevally. They were the primary species that were attacking jigs.
We also have a healthy population of Twin Spot Snapper or Red Bass as they’re commonly known. Again these fish will readily take a popper and put up a good scrap as they head straight back down into the reef they came up from. Surprisingly more anglers get reefed or stuck in a bommie by these fish, than by GT.
Some deep jigging marks produced the usual suspects who were there on cue and ready to eat metal. We were primarily popper fishing so did not invest a lot of time jigging. However the boys added a few new species to their list of fish caught on the trip. We also have some ripping currents then and needed much heavier jigs than anticipated.
John was keen on catching a barracuda as it was a new species for him. He managed to get one even though this was a little one and couldn’t bite him off!
The look on our Skipper’s face says ‘oh no, not another hook-up’ as John gets a strike while fishing from the front of the boat. The boys had their work cut out for them that afternoon.

We had a great week fishing with them. Hoping to fish with them again in the near future either in the Andaman Islands or in our new destination…. Sri Lanka.
